Wrangler | Fall - Winter 19

by Dimitris Asimakopoulos

A flash of Eighties nostalgia, an ongoing attraction to retro sports and a new love affair with tribal style – for Fall Winter 2019, Wrangler takes on a richly eclectic vibe with a collision of references, creating an evocative feel of California thrift store gem finds updated with a fresh modern vibe.

The Eighties keeps an enduring hold, with its influence seen in the line of a denim dress and the batwing sleeves of knitwear for women, and in the graphics and retro sports silhouettes for both men and women. In denim, Wrangler’s new Noise style takes on an Eighties feel with retro washes, and dials up the volume on a men’s denim jacket, straight out of the decade.

Wrangler’s Sherpa jacket, a future icon, also pays tribute to an Eighties-style generous silhouette combined with a shorter length.

Across the denim range, established fits return but with new washes, including glacier blue range that updates Wrangler’s classic Americana colour palette. Denim becomes tactile, with soft luxe and brushed fabrics introduced while corduroy offers a new direction for jeans and jackets.

The Native patterns that launched in Wrangler’s fall preview collection make a return across women’s knitwear, as a motif on tees and hoodies and a bold tribal pattern blazing across a jacket. For men, shirts take on striking prints inspired by traditional Native American designs in a new take on Wrangler’s iconic rainbow motif.

Wrangler revisits the retro sports trend, with athletic stripes and colour blocking making an energetic comeback in bold colourways including sharp navy and red against white, or a soft new rose pink for women and lagoon blue for men. Old school silhouettes reference the Eighties, but Wrangler starts to move towards the near nostalgia of Nineties and early 2000s sportswear, evoking a playful take on the normcore trend.

Wrangler FW19/20

Perfectly placed to ride the return of the checked shirt, Wrangler styles pieces in a range of shades for men, as well as brightly-coloured simple plaid.

For women, bold checks are created in a predominantly red or blue palette, taking on genderless style, while for a softer feel Wrangler’s iconic Western shirt is reimagined in a prairie-style romantic floral print.

Inspired by a range of sources, including Wrangler’s own rich and eclectic archive, FW19 represents the denim icon’s most diverse collection yet, brought together with the common thread of a celebration of American style.
